Introduction
Building a SaaS product is one of the most exciting — and most challenging — things you can do as a founder or entrepreneur. This guide covers everything you need to know to go from idea to paying customers.
Phase 1: Idea Validation
Before writing a single line of code, validate your idea rigorously. Talk to at least 20 potential customers. Understand their pain deeply. Build a landing page and see if people sign up.
Phase 2: Define Your MVP
Your MVP should have exactly one core feature that solves the main problem. Nothing more. Resist the urge to add features — focus on delivering core value first.
Phase 3: Choose Your Tech Stack
For most SaaS products in 2025, we recommend:
- Frontend: Next.js + TypeScript + Tailwind
- Backend: Node.js + Prisma
- Database: PostgreSQL (Supabase)
- Auth: Supabase Auth or Clerk
- Payments: Stripe
- Hosting: Vercel + Railway/Render
Phase 4: Build the Core
Focus on: Authentication, core feature, subscription billing, basic dashboard. Do not spend time on settings pages and profile features — ship the core first.
Phase 5: Launch & Iterate
Launch early. Get feedback. Iterate fast. Your first version will not be perfect — and that is completely fine. Real user feedback is infinitely more valuable than any internal planning session.
